Being an event coordinator, it was second nature for me to plan my own wedding. I knew I wanted to tie in my love for the hill country and country music. Our first choice for our event was Floore’s Country Store, but due to COVID we came to a full stop in our wedding plans. Me being me I knew I could pivot in any direction I needed to in order to still have the wedding of my dreams. Where my husband and I lived there was a community center (not the most up to date look) we could rent out and really decorate it my vision. The best decision I made was having it there. Since it was in the hill country our venue fee was a fraction of what we were going to pay before COVID hit.
My vendors and I loaded in the day before to start transforming the venue inside and out. White drapes and festoon lights went up and transformed the venue completely to a new look. Our theme was a rustic country wedding with navy blues, burlap, wine red, and sunflowers everywhere. Our centerpieces had details of pheasant feathers and antlers. Saying the I do’s outside under beautiful oak trees, meant there was no true grand entrance where I would emerge for the first time for my husband to see me. So, I asked family to build me a door way with 2 rustic doors from a local farm. My audio and visual vendor spiced up the doors by attaching 2 wall pallets, whiskey barrels, saddle and sunflowers in mason jars.
Guest arrived and made their way around the venue past the 12’ cowboy boots into the backyard shaded by the oak trees. The bridal party lined up near the rustic door way and made their way down the aisle where my husband and step son waited. My father and I walked through the door way and down the aisle. For a wedding at 2PM in June the weather was perfect, sunny, little breezy and tons of shade from the oak trees.
My husband and I did not want a stressful wedding, more of a big party for us to celebrate our love and our families becoming one. With that in mind that is what I gave us. At the bar there was our favorite beers and all options of Jack Daniel’s (our favorite). My family and I love to dance so I made sure we had plenty of time to dance with the DJ.
